A wind mitigation looks at how the house will hold up in a hurricane. We check all windows and doors to see if any hurricane protection is installed. We go into the attic to see how the roof is constructed and attached to the house. Based on these findings, there are various discounts that the homeowner may qualify for that could save them money off their insurance rates. This is not a pass/fail inspection. It can only help save the homeowner money. It cannot penalize/hurt the homeowner in any way.
The only part at the house we need to access is where the attic access is (usually the garage). The rest of the inspection is on outside of the house. We do need someone to b home. It does not need to be the homeowner. It can be a neighbor/friend.
If it is a new house purchase and we are dealing whit the realtor, if the realtor supplies a lockbox code, nobody needs to be there.
The wind mitigation report is good for only 5 years. After that, they expire and need to be redone, even if nothing has changed about the house. You should always have a current wind mitigation, so that you can take advantage of the discounts that it gives you.
The inspection takes 30 minutes to complete. After it is completed, the report will be sent to the insurance agent the next day. We also emailed a copy for the homeowner.
